Technology
Since 1982 I have been addicted to computers. My first computer was the Commodore VIC-20. I wrote programs, played games, and even sent an email to Harold Greenberg using Compuserve! My love for computers took a side seat thru my teens as I got involved in sports, but in 93 I got an IBM computer and within months I was pulling it apart. A few months after that I built my own computer from scratch and soon I was fixing and building computers for friends and family.
Some good friends and I were using VOIP, IRC, FTP, CHATTING (from one room to another), and learning as much as we could. The three of us went into different areas of technology but all found success.
After many years of using Microsoft Windows and being frustrated at its lack of consistency and vulnerability to viruses and bugs, I started to use Linux in 1998. Linux was very command line driven at that time and not so GUI friendly. This worked out for me because I started to learn UNIX which led me to read an interesting article about Apple. Apple in my mind was a funny company that operated on the outside of the mainstream world of technology. They had fired their leader and were on the verge of collapse. But I read about how they brought Steve Jobs back, and how he was merging his NEXT project back into the company that their new OS would be based on UNIX. This caught my eye and when I read that one of the worlds most notorious “>hackers was getting a 17 inch PowerBook…well, I had to have one.
I got the PowerBook 4 months after ordering it (which drove me up a wall) and then was pretty frustrated for a few months learning to think different (no pun intended)
At that time, Apple was not very popular, the stock price was very low, there was no iPod, no iPhone, but I saw something in the OS and the direction that things were going in and I was hooked. My friends thought I was nuts for using a Mac, but I told them all to switch and buy the stock… and nobody listened except Steven Raichlen and a handful of other close friends.
Since then Apple has rocketed into a worldwide leader again and I love my Mac! I actually have only owned 3 Macs since 2000, 2 notebooks and 1 desktop. Macs Last and only get better with each release of the OS. If your looking for a computer, don’t think twice. You have no reason to have a PC in your home.
Currently I have a Mac Pro Desktop with 2 24 Inch Samsung Monitors, a 16GB 3G iPhone, a few old iPods around, and my MacBook Pro 2.33Ghz with 500GB hard drive and 2GB of Ram.
I enjoy building computers, setting up servers, and building networks.
